Amichai Magen

Dr. Amichai Magen is a Senior Lecturer (US Associate Professor) and Head of the Program in Diplomacy & Conflict Studies at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya, Israel. He also heads the Governance & Political Violence Program at the Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at Herzliya, and is currently a Principal Investigator (PI) in the EU funded Horizon 2020 projects EU-LISTCO and RECONNECT.  

Between 2005 and 2009 Dr. Magen was a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School, a Research Fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), Stanford University, and a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He holds a BA in Law and Political Science (First Class), an LL.M (First Class) from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, and a Doctorate of the Science of Law (JSD) from Stanford Law School. He received the Yitzhak Rabin Fulbright Award in 2003.  

Dr. Magen's current research and teaching focus on sovereignty, democracy, and the rule-of-law, governance in areas of limited statehood, political violence, EU external relations and EU-Israel relations. He is author of many journal articles and author and editor of several books. His recent publications include: "Fighting Terrorism: The Democracy Advantage" 29/1 Journal of Democracy (2018), "Cracks in the Foundations: Understanding the Great Rule of Law Debate in the EU" 54/5 Journal of Common Market Studies (2016), and "The Democratic Entitlement in an Era of Democratic Recession" 4/2 Cambridge Journal of International and Comparative Law (2015).

Amichai Magen served on the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) and is a Board Member of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations (ICFR).
