When asked why Turkey should be a mediator between the European Union and the Middle East, Soli Özel, professor of International Relations at Kadir Has University in Istanbul and a columnist at Habertürk daily newspaper, has a clear answer: “Because one advantage Turkey has is that it can speak the language of all its neighbors.”
