The Ukraine crisis has lead to a severe strain in EU-Russian relations. At the same time, Russia and China are building new ties that strive for independence from the European Union and the United States. The $400 billion deal to export gas to China is only one example for this emerging alliance. But can a foremost economic partnership lead to strong diplomatic ties that at some point in the future could serve as a counterpart to the EU-US partnership? When looking at their respective visions of a new world order, a sustainable partnership seems far from reality. Together with Fyodor Lukyanov and Huang Jing we would like to spend an interactive evening looking at perceptions both from Russia and China.
