Opinions on Germany’s role in Europe are divided: while some advocate a stronger orientation of European politics and economy on the German model, others keep protesting against Germany’s inflexibility on austerity measures. The only agreement is on the fact that Germany will and wants to assume leadership in Europe. Accordingly, there is little understanding on Germany’s reluctant position abroad.
