Dr. Rose Ngugi is a Fellow of Africa Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and Chairperson of Southern Voice. She also serves as a Member of the Italian Institute for Political Studies (ISPI) Advisory Board, a Guest Editor of Journal of African Development, and a Co-chair of Think20 South Africa Taskforce 1 on Trade and Investment.
As an Executive Director of Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (January 2017-January 2025), she was involved in providing overall strategic leadership in delivery of the Institute core mandate. During her tenure KIPPRA took leadership in creating a platform for engagement with Kenya think tanks and a platform for engaging with youth in climate action.
Previously, Rose Ngugi served as a Senior Advisor in the Office of Executive Director, Executive Board, African Group1 (AFGI) at IMF in Washington DC (September 2010 to November 2016). The office represented 23 African countries in the IMF Executive Board. She was also a Member of the inaugural Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Kenya (May 2008-September 2010), and member of the Monetary Policy Advisory Committee (August 2005-December 2007).
Rose Ngugi holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from the University of Nairobi, and a PhD in Finance from Business School, University of Birmingham, UK. In 2023, she was awarded by the President of Republic of Kenya, the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) which is an award presented to individuals in recognition of an outstanding service rendered to the country in different responsibilities and capacities.
